IN GENERAL (FAQ)
Where are you located? We are located in Northern California in El Dorado Hills, right off of CA highway 50 east of Sacramento.
How to contact us? We are out of business for the current season.
What is required for a reservation? A completed rental application which can be dropped off, emailed, faxed or mailed; a valid California driver's license; and a $100 deposit made in cash, Paypal, or credit/debit card.
What is required at pickup of your rental? Valid California driver's license, proof of insurance for your rental, payment for your rental, and remaining deposit made in cash. (Copies of your DL and Insurance will be required and verified).
What insurance is required? Our insurance requires us to verify that the liability of the tow vehicle will also extend to our trailer while the trailer is in your possession. Sierra Trailer Rentals will supply a form to give to your insurance agent in order to obtain the correct insurance for your rental.
How do you base your rates? We rent by the number of days you will have the tent trailer in your possession, NOT by the number of nights. Rates are based on 24 hour period.
How much is the deposit and when is it due? The deposit is $250. $100 of the deposit is due at the time the reservation is made and can be made in cash, by Paypal, or by credit/debit card. The remaining $150 is due at the time you pick up your rental and is payable in cash only.
What is your cancellation policy? Initial deposit is refundable (minus any credit/debit card processing fees, if applicable) if reservation is cancelled 21 days prior to reservation date. No refund after 21 days prior to reservation date. If we are able to rent the trailer for the dates you cancelled we may refund a portion of your deposit.
When is payment for the rental due? Payment is due at the time you pick up the trailer and can be made in cash or by credit/debit card.
Is there a fee for paying with a credit card? A 3.5% processing fee is charged when paying by credit/debit card.
Are tent trailers difficult to hook up or operate? No. Please allow up to 45 minutes while we demonstrate the use and proper hook up of the unit. Each unit comes with an Instruction Guide for additional help.
Do you provide propane? Yes, but you are required to replace all propane used. If you return the propane canister empty/partially empty you will be charged for estimate replacement cost of $4.00 per lb. (We recommend that you bring your own propane canister in order to avoid additional fees.)
How do I know if my vehicle can tow a tent trailer? Check your vehicle owner’s manual for towing limits. Allow for 80% of what is recommended as you may fill the lower walkways with luggage and other items.
Do you install hitches and wiring for trailer lights? No. Find a reputable dealer to install these for you. Your vehicle must come equipped with a 7 round flat pin or 4-prong flat plug and receiver with a 2″ ball. You must verify that the electrical wiring of your vehicle is operational before picking up your rental.
What if I return the tent trailer early? All rentals are for a contracted time period. There are no refunds for early returns.
Does the rental come with pots and pans or other camping accessories? Yes, the following items will be included with your rental: six plates, six bowls, eight cups, four mugs, pan, spatula, tongs. If used and not returned clean then cleaning fees apply. We provide these as a courteous and the next renter reserves to have clean furnishings.
Does the tent trailer have a holding tank for grey water? No. A bucket will be included to catch the grey water from the sink if your camp site requires grey water to be contained.
Are pets allowed in the tent trailer? Yes but only with prior consent. All debris from pets must be cleaned up before returning your rental or a cleaning fee will be deducted from your deposit. Your deposit will not be returned if permanent damage is sustained from your pet. At no time, should pets be left unattended in the trailer.
What happens if we have a tire blow out or other mechanical failures? Tires are your responsibility. We work in good faith by providing clean, full functioning tent trailers upon your departure. Troubleshooting suggestions are listed in the Instruction Guide that accompanies your rental.
Can we plug into the electrical outlets inside the trailer? Yes and no. The electrical outlets work only if you are plugged into city electricity via the power cord. The electrical outlets do not work if you are dry camping and drawing from the deep cycle battery.
How long will the battery power last? That depends on how conservative you are with using the lights, heater and/or refrigerator. The refrigerator will operate on propane. So if you use the heater sparingly and don't accidently leave the lights on then you can get 2-4 days of use from the battery.
How should I return the tent trailer? In the same condition as you picked it up. Zip up all the windows before collapsing the tent trailer. Sweep out the interior and wipe down counters, sink, stove top and refrigerator. You don’t need to clean the outside vinyl, screens or box when
Why am I charged a cleaning fee? If the trailer is not returned in the same condition it is picked up, a $40 per hour cleaning fee will be deducted from your deposit based on estimated cleaning time needed at the discretion of Sierra Trailer Rentals.
Will you deliver a trailer to a campsite? Yes, depending on distance. Additional fees apply.
Do you rent generators? Yes, we do have a generator that is rented for $10 a day or $50 per week.
